‘The Garden’
Illustrated Playing cards
This was the first of my final major projects, and definitely the biggest! I created separate designs for each of the 52 cards in the deck as well as two identical joker cards, the patterned design for the back of the cards and the box design.
I chose to base the deck on the theme of a garden, and made each suit a collection of things you may see in a garden; fruit/vegetables, insects, flowers and fungi. I think these suit themes really allowed me to have a wide range of interesting shapes and colours.
Each illustration to go onto a card was painted in my sketchbook and then scanned in to digitally design. I also hand drew the symbols, numbers and letters as I wanted every single part of the cards to be my design and have a true hand made feel.
